After reading the story “The Unicorn in the garden” by James Thurber, work on these

one and create your own story based on the drawing (100 words)
4) Next Thursday we will read “The rabbits who caused all the trouble”. Be ready to explain what

1) I think that it is a comedy story because it talks about how the husband managed to separate from his wife.

2) In this 1929 picture, E.B. White is on the left and Thurber is on the right on the upper step. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Thurber was blinded in the left eye during a game of William Tell at the age of 8 which kept him from military service during WWI. He was the editor of the monthly humor magazine at Ohio State University once he had returned from dropping out sophomore year "just to read." He worked as a freelance writer, as a press agent, and as a reporter in Paris. He was hired at The New Yorker in 1927 at the recommendation of E.B. White first as an editor, but he eventually concentrated on the short humorous tales and essays known as "casuals." Thurber and White shared a cubicle for three years, and are largely credited with establishing The New Yorker's sophisticated tone. Thurber began publishing cartoons in the magazine in 1931, and is famous for his dominant women, small and nervous passive men, and enormous dogs. His best book was "My Life and Hard Times," made up of hysterical sketches of his eccentric family in Columbus. He resigned from the staff in 1933 but continued to contribute to the magazine. "He was honored with helping to elevate American humor from its crude nineteenth-century model to a more polished, contemporary style."

It was a warm night, the couple was sleeping very well and the street was in silence. It was so dark as a close room without windows or doors and lights. The husband was dreaming that he was a vet in the middle of the sea and there were a lot of sea animals around him, but all of them were seals. The wife was dreaming too, but she was dreaming with nothing. Suddenly, he wake up and call his wife:
-Dear, I have heard a noise- he said.
– What noise? - asked her. –It was a noise like a seal’s bark-.
–And how do you know a seal’s bark? - She asked again.
–Because I has dreamed with a seal?
–Is this a joke Arnold? - she exclaimed.
–No dear, I’m talking seriously¡¡¡-. He cried
But she didn’t believe it so she said: -All right. Have it your way. You heard seal bark-.
Then they went back to sleep, and the husband said to himself: -I’m getting crazy?-. And then he fell asleep. When woke up, he notice that his wife was not in the bed and that there was a big hole in the bed in the side of his wife. After that, he went downstairs to the kitchen and when he appeared at the door, he felt a void inside his body after notice that a seal was wearing the t-shirt and the dress of his wife and sited down in his wife’s chair. -Why are you looking to me as like you have seen a human instead of a seal?-.
1)Fantastic. Because in a "real" atmosfear, an extrange idet appeared.

Thurber was best known for his cartoons and short stories, published mainly in The New Yorker magazine then collected in his numerous books. ReplyDeleteJonh Canty is the son of Tom Canty, he lives in a big house with a lot of servants,rooms,bathrooms and snd more.His boy gets in a lot of troubles during the day. Like, destroyed the window of Mrs.Twister, broke the telavision and more.
One day a group of rabits went to Jonh's house and they made a lot of trouble. The broked a window,the chairs, the glases and the plates.
His father has sended Jonh to bed without food.
Then John discovered one of the rabits and he takes him to his father, his father didn't belived him, and when he was going to hit Jonh, all the rabits jumped to him a stoped him. Then when he was older, he buy a lot of rabits, and he tooks they to his house.
